S1265. A Spanish gypsy dancer, turns from side to side, shaking her tambourine and stamping her foot, as the music plays. Probably by Lambert of Paris. This was once given as a present by the Tzar Nicholas II to the Greek Royal Family, and passed into the possession of the royal governess, who redressed it in an attractive flared pink dress and a red waist coat, but with its original shoes and stockings, The porcelain head bears the mark of Simon & Halbig, mould no. 1039. The musical movement is contained in the red plush covered base. This automaton measures 53 cm. high (21 inches). £2,950

S1238. An important Grand Format Four Overture Forte Piano musical box by Nicole Fréres of Geneva, serial number 32030, c.1854. Programme on engraved silver plate; 1. Barber of Seville (Rossini) 2. Don Giovanni (Mozart) 3. Somnambula (Bellini) 4. Pre aux Clercs (Hérold). Lever wound. Cylinder 42.6cm. x 10cm. Magnificent case with canted corners, veneered in rosewood profusely inlaid with brass lines, Lid and front richly decorated with marquetry designs in pierced, engraved brass, with coloured “enamels” in tortoise shell, pink and blue, and some mother of pearl.
