CHARLES ULLMAN EIGHT AIR MUSICAL BOX WITH FIVE BELLS.
An antique musical box playing eight popular airs as listed on the original coloured tune card and pinned on a cylinder 24cm x 5.5cm accompanied by five tuned engine turned bells, contained in a fruitwood case measuring 22” x 13” x 12”, the lid and front veneered in rosewood inlaid with kingwood banding edged with boxwood, the lid centered with a marquetry design of musical trophies in coloured woods.
Charles Ullman started manufacture in L”Auberson, Switzerland, in 1881 and made good class musical boxes of the cheaper kind.

A SIX AIR MANDOLINE MUSICAL BOX BY GEORGE BENDON.

A high quality antique musical box with the tune card of George Bendon of Ste.Croix, with the familiar royal coat of arms supported by a lion and a unicorn, headed “Mandoline” and listing a programme of six well known popular Scottish tunes as pinned on a cylinder 28cm x 5.5cm. The musical movement is contained in a beautiful burr walnut veneered case inlaid with kingwood banding edged with box wood on the lid and front. The serial number “1213” is stenciled under the sound board.

FOUR OPERATIC AIRS MANDOLINE MUSICAL BOX BY NICOLE FRERES.

A lovely antique musical box by Nicole Frères playing a good programme of four operatic airs in a mandolin arrangement (gamme 2553), listed on the original tune card and pinned on a cylinder 21cm x 4.8cm, serial number 46281, Geneva c.1873, contained in a fruitwood case, the sides grained simulated rosewood, the lid veneered in rosewood centered with a good marquetry design in coloured woods including a torch and a quiver, the lid and front with a frame of inlaid boxwood lines.

RARE THREE OVERTURE KEYWIND, BY BOURQUIN/LANGDORFF
A very desirable key wound three overture musical box. The bedplate is stamped “F. B. Bourquin”, but the box bears a tune card of Langdorff of Geneva. The bedplate is also stamped with the Langdorff serial number 2083, giving a date of manufacture circa 1843. Three overtures are listed on the tune card, and pinned on a cylinder 24.5 cm x 8cm, being played on a perfect comb with a 176 very fine teeth.
The beautiful case has a flap over the controls at the left hand end, and measures 18 inches long by 9 inches deep and six inches high. The lid and all four sides are veneered in rosewood; there are double boxwood lines around the front and two double boxwood lines around the lid. The lid has an excellent design in the centre of the lid and four excellent designs at the corners in delicate parquetry in coloured woods.
Frederick Henry Bourquin came to London from the Jura valley in about 1842, having worked with Langdorff and Metert.

NICOLE FRERES 12 AIR TWO PER TURN FORTE PIANO.

A superb antique two-comb forte piano musical box signed by Nicole Frères of Geneva, and playing an excellent popular operatic programme of twelve airs, gamme No. 1317, arranged two-per-turn on a cylinder 33.6cm x 8.5cm
and listed on the original tune card under the lid. The serial number 39392 corresponds to a date of manufacture of 1862. The key wound musical movement is supplied with a ratchet lever winding key as supplied with the highest quality large movements, and is contained in an exceptionally beautiful case veneered in rosewood on the lid and three sides, the lid inlaid with boxwood lines, and with a central ebony cartouche inlaid with a marquetry design of two birds, one on its nest, with smaller inlaid cartouches either side and at the four corners.

An early key wound musical box by Nicole Freres of Geneva serial number 21195 circa 1842, playing eight airs, two-per-turn with superb tone and beautiful arrangements, as pinned on a cylinder 22.5cm x 8cm and listed on the original tune card, gamme number 600 with the original winding key size 18, contained in a beautiful well figured, light coloured, walnut case with end flap and inlaid with fine ebony lines.

Eight air two comb piano forte musical box by Nicole Frères of Geneva serial number 43902 circa 1869 playing eight operatic airs including six by Verdi as listed on the original tune card, gamme number 1685, and pinned on an unusually long cylinder 44.5 cm x 5.8cm, the movement with a tune indicator, contained in a rosewood veneered case with kingwood banding and a good design in floral marquetry on the lid.
