S1238. An outstandingly good Grand Format, Four Overture, Forte Piano musical box by Nicole Fréres of Geneva, the serial number 32030 giving a date of.1854. This is unusually early for a lever wound musical movement. The heavily pinned cylinder measures 42.6cm. x 10cm. There are a total of 237 teeth n the two music combs. The musical movement is contained in a magnificent case with canted corners, veneered in rosewood profusely inlaid with brass lines, The lid and front are richly decorated with marquetry designs in pierced, engraved brass, with coloured “enamels” in tortoise shell, pink and blue, and also some mother of pearl.
